HISPASAT, the Spanish telecommunications satellite operator, has signed an agreement with Telefónica in Spain for the multi-year renewal of the satellite service that the Spanish multinational offers to both companies as well as public agencies. This way, HISPASAT will continue to offer a service that it has been providing to Telefónica for more than 15 years through the European footprint of its H30W-6 satellite.
This service includes, for example, establishing remote connectivity for corporate networks in companies with headquarters located in areas with insufficient or non-existent terrestrial coverage (such as with companies from the energy sector), using satellites as a backup solution to increase the availability of communications in critical public or private centres (for instance in river basin authorities or weather stations), supervising remote industrial or data measurement processes, providing emergency solutions that require connectivity in movement, broadcasting multimedia contents and even applications linked to shopping centres and banking institutions.
This agreement complements the one reached last year to renew the space capacity leasing, also on the H30W-6 satellite, which allows Telefónica to offer Universal Broadband Service via satellite to all corners of Spain.
Ignacio Sanchis, HISPASAT CCO, said "we are very pleased that Telefónica, the leading operator in the market, has shown its trust in HISPASAT for its offering of corporate services and has thus consolidated the work that we have been developing jointly for a long time. Due to its efficiency, global coverage, and rapid roll out, satellites are an ideal tool for solutions like the ones that Telefónica offers its corporate and public clients in places far removed from urban centres."
Francisco Panduro, EMEA Sales Manager of Telefónica Servicios Audiovisuales, said "thanks to HISPASAT's satellite capacity and the teleport that Telefónica owns in Armuña de Tajuña, we are capable of offering professional satellite services based on the specific needs of each of our clients in conjunction with the other technologies that the company offers, which provides added value to all our solutions".
